Kishana Smith

Kishana found her passion for Domestic Violence (DV) work behind the walls of a state prison. Being a survivor of childhood sexual abuse and realizing the prevalence of incarcerated survivors of abuse, Kishana was eager to learn more. This deeply rooted passion led to years of extensive research. After performing a spoken word piece at a youth talent show, Kishana was offered a job to advise and mentor the youth. She facilitated groups on self-esteem, codependency, creative writing, and anger management. Her work was recognized as effective and inspiring. She was then offered another position to work with impatient and out-patient survivors of DV and sexual abuse. When nineteen years old Kishana addressed an audience, and her credibility was never questioned. Her messages driven by experience, passion, and awareness trumped her age. Inspired to reach audiences of all ages, with her work, Kishana moved from Pennsylvania to Boston to become a Domestic Violence Advocate. If she's not walking the streets of South Boston with her hot tea from Dunkin Donuts, she's working on a piece of literature to build community awareness around this issue. Now, at the age of twenty-six, Kishana is focused on her second biggest breakthrough along her healing journey, publishing her first book, The Diary of a Codependent.
