Marci Grimwood was born with the blood of a shapeshifter. That wouldn’t have been a problem if her father, the king of Grimwood, didn’t utterly despise the species that killed his queen, and left him alone with an ill-fated daughter. Taking his vengeance to the only man who loved the queen more than he, he convinced him to cast an enchantment over Grimwood that would rid it of the unpredictable species that had once inhabited it. Where did that leave Marci? Expecting to die on her eighteenth birthday, unless she could find a way out of the stifling enchantment. One day, not long after turning seventeen, Marci makes the glorious discovery of a magical ring—a ring that takes her to the one place she’s always desired to go: outside of the wall. At first, Marci is not welcome. Because she is the princess, she poses a threat to the outsiders and the comfort of their life in the woods. Determined as she is, she doesn’t take no for an answer, and because James—the leader of the pack—has a developing crush, he can’t help but cave. Having a queen like Marci, he figures, is worth the risk. Whether or not everyone feels that way, however, will determine Grimwood’s fate forever.
