I Don’t Mind…: (Talking Openly About Mental Illness)

SKU 121 Category:

This book is about me, primarily, and how mental illness ravaged my life for about 20 years, triggered by an unwanted sexual encounter that occurred after a night of drinking with friends. I don’t believe it is an altogether unique tale and that is why I think it is worth reading, to hear what is happening with so many of us women. I released very few copies the first time, as I felt self-conscious about the material, but as time has passed, I have decided to place it out there in the public eye again. Partly, this is because I am at a point in my life where the content shouldn’t hurt my career, but how many of us are kept quiet because of that fear? So, here is my tale from about 1992 – 2017, in abbreviated form. I haven’t changed the content. I hope it helps open doors and minds. I tried to be as brutally honest as I could as I’ve made a lot of mistakes and would love people to learn from them. It was worth it. Take care!

I started life simply enough, growing up in rural Montana in a conservative Christian home. While at college had an unplanned pregnancy and a rushed marriage (though we had been engaged). I studied Computer Science and took a summer internship in California with Hewlett-Packard. After a late night drinking, I was sexually assaulted and from that moment my life spun out of control. I stopped sleeping and eating and soon was full-blown psychotic. I have battled recurrent Mental Illness since. I changed my major to Nursing in the desire to help people like myself. I understand what it’s like to fight for your life against a demon no one understands. I’ve had people tell me to give up and collect disability. I’ve actually been on and come off disability twice. But I want to live, and work, and contribute to society. With medical management, full-time work is attainable, even for me.
